The beginning of a new school year for families and kids in the Bellevue School District is Thursday, Sept. 1. Jesse Tam, reminder with the new changes this year are start times for Bellevue high school will be one hour later from 7:30 to 8:30 am. Allow extra time and be flexible the first few days for traffic and commuters.
Middle school students will begin the day at 7:30 am this fall with high school students start time begins at 8:30 am. Remember the 20 mph limit in school zone when children are present and the yellow flashing crossing during school hours to slow down.
The following safety tips for drivers and pedestrians:
• Slow down in school zones. The stopping distance of a vehicle traveling 30 miles per hour is nearly twice the stopping distance of a vehicle traveling 20 miles per hour;
• Pay attention while driving; don’t be distracted by electronic devices or cell phones, and watch for pedestrians when entering a school driveway or turning a corner;
• Stop for pedestrians and children getting on and off school buses. It’s unlawful to pass a school bus when the red lights are flashing;
• If your kids walk to school, make sure they know the rules of the road and your expectations.
Learning is a treasure that will follow you everywhere. Here’s to another start of learning. Thanks for visiting, Jesse
